The story combines actual mythology surrounding Frederick Barbarossa with the real life truths of the Ahnernabe and Nazi scientists’ obsession with the occult and creating “ubermensch.” The audio and video files you can find show in detail what the Nazis did to the village they occupied as well as the horrific experiments they conducted.
It’s got a moody and dark atmosphere somewhat akin to Nacht Der Untoten but for the most part it’s much more realistic compared to Treyarch Zombies. The Final Reich is honestly my favorite Zombies map since Mob of the Dead. In terms of gameplay and atmosphere, it’s great. Overall, while not perfect, I do enjoy it. Frozen Dawn gives each type of player a way to play, offers an interesting boss fight (which is easy to skip most of, if you want the reward) and some cool side Easter eggs, most of which YouTubers barely cover. The survival maps are cool chilled maps, designed for if you want to hop on and play. Tortured Path offers a fun challenge mode, which is similar to gauntlets, but more casual focused. Where the Dev team figured out what they wanted from the mode. Shadowed Throne is definitely the second best map, basically the follow up to Final Reich.
Darkest Shore is probably the weakest map, but it has a spooky atmosphere and lore. Groesten House is a tight map, which makes it a fun challenge Final Reich is the best map on the game. I know a lot of YouTubers tend to hate on it, particularly Lex and CodeNamePizza, but I do enjoy all the maps, despite some flaws. Very underrated game, especially the zombies.
